Our Chapter

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. (NCBW) was created as a national organization in 1981. The Chattanooga Chapter began when a group of concerned African American women met October 1994 to explore the idea of establishing an affiliate chapter of NCBW.

It was felt by all in attendance that African American women in our local communities were dealing with many issues that had not been addressed and that through this organization talents and strengths could be pooled together to make a difference.

Key areas charter members felt needed to be addressed among African American women included:

- Health care
- Education
- Politics
- Economic Development

Excitement and enthusiasm created the bonding process for the women to start an affiliate chapter on October 26, 1995; thus, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Chattanooga Chapter became a reality. Over the years, programs and activities have been developed and implemented in accordance with the organization's Mission Statement. Partnerships have been created with locally based civic, social and community organizations and the corporate sector. With these partnerships, NCBW has continued its goal of addressing issues that impact African American women in particular.

In 2011, the Chattanooga Chapter was recognized as a model chapter by the national organization. The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Chattanooga Chapter is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

Our Mission

The mission of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. is to advocate on behalf of Black women and girls to promote leadership development and gender equity in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.
